Sovereign is a global entertainment, investment, production and distribution company, headquartered in the UK. Founded in 2008 by Andreas Roald, Sovereign creates award-winning content across music, film, TV, and theatre.


Since launching Sovereign Film Distribution in the UK in 2019, we have released over 20 feature films theatrically working closely with the directors, delivering screenings with Q&A’s, talks, and special events, and produced over 50 films under our production division.


Sovereign’s ever-increasing library includes the Berlin International Film Festival Golden Bear winner Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn from director Radu Jude, and Cannes Jury Prize winner Memoria starring Tilda Swinton from acclaimed director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.


Our carefully curated titles have played to strong critical and audience acclaim, often premiering at renowned international film festivals, including Cannes, Berlinale, Toronto, Venice, and many more.


Sovereign was also one of the producers of the satirical dark comedy Triangle of Sadness from writer/director Ruben Östlund, starring Woody Harrelson, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and previously produced Effie Gray, starring Dakota Fanning, Emma Thompson and, Julie Walters.

Other theatrically released titles in the UK include the comedy drama Rimini from director Ulrich Seidel which was nominated for a Golden Berlin Bear and screened at the BFI London Film Festival; Kirill Serebrennikov’s Palme d’Or nominated historical drama Tchaikovsky’s Wife; Amat Escalante’s dramatic thriller Lost in the Night; and Laurent Nègre’s acclaimed World War 2 thriller, A Forgotten Man.


In 2024 in the UK, Sovereign will release theatrically Radu Jude’s award-winning black comedy Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World which was Romania’s entry to the Oscars; Lisandro Alonso’s Eureka, starring Viggo Mortensen; the award-winning documentary A Wolfpack Called Ernesto from director Everardo González; and the drama Small Gods, a feature film about the landless Batwa people of Africa’s Great Lakes Region, which has recently completed filming in Uganda.
